Confessions Of A She-Fan: The Day Is Finally Here!
It all started with an article she wrote for The New York Times back in May 2007, in which she announced her intentions to divorce the Yankees. What happened next was a whirlwind of activities: a road-trip during which she followed the team around for the rest of the season, two more Times pieces and new highs and lows in her marriage.
Confessions Of A She-Fan, which goes on sale today, is a memoir by our MLBlogs friend Jane Heller, about her life during that very stressfull 2007 Yankee season. You all remember 2007, right? It's the one with all the injuries (Wang, Damon, Rasner, Karstens, etc.), all the kid pitchers (Chase Wright,Tyler Clippard, etc), the return of Roger Clemens, the debut of Kei Igawa and the historical milestones of Alex Rodrigeuz. It's also the one of Joba and the midges and about another early exit from the post-season. Yes, it was about the last year Joe Torre managed the New York Yankees.
The book is written in journal form. Each week of the season is chornicled and, as I read it I couldn't help but think about what I, myself, was doing during each of those weeks. As Jane talked about her feelings during, say, Alex Rodrigeuz's 500th home-run (which she was in the stands for), I remembered how I had to run a quick errand just before the start of the game and that I ran around my neighborhood like a madwoman trying to get back in time for the start of the game, thinking that maybe, just maybe, this was the game in which he'd hit that historic HR. I laughed when I remembered that, but I didn't laugh when I got to the parts about the ALDS. To be honest, I couldn't even read those parts. The memories are still too painful.
But I suppose those memories are not as painful as the ones Jane now has about dealing with the Yankee PR Department. Her plan was to land some really big interviews to include in the book. She found out right away that dealing with Jason Zilo and the Yankees is like trying to get into Fort Knox. Talk about heart-wrenching! She did land some big interviews though and, believe me, you'll really love reading about them in the book.
I think you'll enjoy the rest of the book, too. Jane takes readers on the rollercoaster ride of emotions that the typical sports fan knows all too well: Unconditional, unrequited love, painful betryal, the sadness of a broken heart, anger and rejection and the courage to love again.
Confessions Of A She-Fan won't stir up any controversey the way another book coming out today will, but it might stir up your memories of the 2007 season which, for all its ups and downs, could have been a helluva lot worse. So, go out and get the book and get ready to remember.

Hope she met up with Tino!! :) Waiting on my Amazon delivery with Joe Torre.

I will wait until her book signing at Barnes and Noble in Tampa in March to get the book.
Please do not ruin the A Rod dinner story by telling it to me before I read it. Great blog about a great writer...........that is why she is a constant in the top spots.

Good job, Bern! Way to help out Jane. Hey, I will be running through your borough's streets on Sunday: Make way for me in the Bronx Half Marathon! Gotta beat last year's time...that was a tough course and hopefully it won't be as windy this time. Oh, and we have to find a place to park. :)
